Vegan travel & hotels - the new hype!

The growing importance of sustainability and ethics in the tourism industry is evident. Also, the popularity of meat-free eating isn't restricted solely to restaurants anymore. ‘Vegan travel’ is taking off - what was more or less a private habit or a personal philosophy is now a new travel genre enjoyed by many like-minded travellers.

However, vegan hotels are not only popular amongst vegans. A lot of people prefer a vegan cuisine on their travels, both in order to travel more guilt-free, as well as to stay fit & healthy. This has led to more and more vegan hotels opening up.

One benefit of travelling vegan, is the benefit to the environment. Researchers at the University of Oxford found that enjoying a vegan diet and cutting meat and dairy products from your diet can reduce an individual's carbon footprint from food by up to 73 per cent! This would lead to a significant drop in greenhouse gas emissions as well, and would free up wild land lost to agriculture, one of the primary causes for mass wildlife extinction.

Another upside of vegan travel is that, if everyone stopped eating these foods, global farmland use could be reduced by 75 per cent, an area equivalent to the size of the US, China, Australia and the EU combined.

Vegan travel has a lot of advantages as you can see! That is why we have researched the best vegan hotels for you.

One of your favourite vegan hotels is the Koukoumi Boutique Hotel in Greece. It will open its doors to the public later this summer in Ano Mera Mykonos. Vegan chef Angeliki Charami (also known from Crudo restaurant, Athens) will cook exclusively vegan and raw food recipes. But this is not all - the hotel also has a beautiful spa, which only offers vegan spa products, produced from Greek essential oils.

Villa Vegana in Mallorca is not only a stunning hotel, it also offers a wide range of vegan dishes from around the world, representing the cooking traditions of the Mediterranean, India & Asia, South-America, Africa, and the Orient.

Another beautiful hotel which offers vegan cuisine is Masseria Le Carrube in Puglia Italy. Every evening, Massimo Santoro, who is the chef at the hotel, proposes a different tasting menu for their guests with typical vegetarian dishes from Puglia.

Of course there are plenty of other hotels that are not 100% vegan hotels, but which do offer a nice variety of vegan food. Among our favourite hotels is The Balé in Indonesia. This stunning hotel not only has plenty of vegan food on their menu, it also offers a vegan cooking class using only regional products.

To find more beautiful hotel offering vegan food, we can recommend the website veganhotels.com.
