L’Oréal is launching a new Sustainability Beauty Brand: Seed Phytonutrients

Sustainable skin-care and plant-based green beauty are no longer just niche products. Major brands and retailers are getting on the eco-friendly wagon. As more and more brands hop on board, it's becoming clear that earth-friendly practices aren't just a fad, but the future of the industry. Being vegan, all-natural, cruelty-free or sold with sustainable packaging, we love them all.

Today's story features the entrepreneurial spirit of Shane Wolf, a beauty industry veteran at the world’s argest cosmetics company L’Oréal. Wolf is the brains behind Seed Phytonutrients. As the name suggests, the products contain ingredients derived from seeds, locally sourced from local farms in Pennsylvania where the brand is based. The use of bioactive extracts or phytochemicals from a variety of botanicals in cosmetics is not new to the Beauty Industry but Seeds Phytonutrients takes Natural Beauty to the next level by bringing the farmer's market to your beauty cabinet. Not only it uses seeds that are cold pressed to produce oils with high concentrations of omega-3 fatty acids, antioxidants, phytosterols, carotene and vitamins, but it also supports Independent American Organic Farmers by paying for 100 per cent of their crop up front, regardless of yield.

This is fantastic, but this  newly established brand is going even further.

A recyclable, compostable shampoo bottle seems like a tall order, but Seed's amazing team has turned it into reality by partnering with Ecologic, a company dedicated to “creating a more sustainable world through better packaging choices”. Seed Phytonutrients products are packaged in an Ecologic water-resistant paper bottle lined with food-grade recycled plastic that’s 60 per cent thinner than typical plastic bottles, thus drastically reducing the environmental impact of this beauty product line.
